La Rennaisance Riverside Hotel in Saigon is worth the splurge if only for the riverside location. Add to that impressive french colonial style architecture, big comfy rooms and a nice pool, and this swanky hotel is worth every cent.

The Rex Hotel is drenched in history, and was a hangout for Americans during the Vietnamese-American war. In 1990, it underwent a massive renovation. Unfortunately, it seems like it?s been undergoing renovations ever since. The 20 million dollar upgrade was supposed to be finished in 2006, but when I was there in 2008, there was still massive construction going on which meant a long detour to get to the rooms, and the pool was closed. Still a great location and a classic, if dated, place to stay.
