Tourism is based on the American model of consumption. Websites like Hospitality Club and CouchSurfing address the needs of travelers who are tired of being part of the tourist machine. This video ventures away from showing people where and how to spend their money. Instead, it encourages travelers to develop friendships and experience local cultures. Check out www.hospitalityclub.org, www.couchsurfing.com, www.warmshowers.org, www.wwoof.org, www.helpx.net, www.organicvolunteers.com, and Craigslist rideshare..... A recession will slow down a tourist but never stop the wandering heart of a traveler. I encourage other travelers in the comment section to share their personal stories and website links about traveling a path of alternative tourism or videos that do not deal with consumption, for example: The Duzer video called Guatemala Mania. Here is the link: http://www.tripfilms.com/Travel_Video-v66279-Guatemala_City-Guatemala_Mania-Video.html.... The TF Tony video about Oyster Pond Beach. Here is the link: http://www.tripfilms.com/Travel_Video-v66144-Chatham-Oyster_Pond_Beach-Video.html.... Special thanks to Paola and Edgar for their enthusiasm and willingness to participate in this video!
