Tripfilms Soundtrack: World Music

03/27/2008 23:03, by MoDean in Tripfilms Blog

Not just seeing and learning about a destination, but actually hearing its sounds and rhythms, is just one of the highlights of watching travel videos. And here at Tripfilms, our filmmakers are in tune with the world.

Delve into the history of The Hamburg Sound, a musical style that originated in Hamburg, Germany, and was made famous by artists like the Beatles, with music lover (and questionable dancer) Burt Wolf. He talks with the curator of an exhibit devoted to the Hamburg Sound at the Hamburg Museum of History and takes us on a virtual trip through the sounds of the 20th century.

Next, travel to Mali, where filmmaker Sarah Van Borek captures enthralling footage of Kela Griots performing their traditional musical recitations of history and folklore. It’s an experience unheard of outside the oral traditions of West Africa.

And don’t miss the ruminations of an Argentinian Tango Singer, brought to you by adopted porteña Ginger Gentile. Watching this sultry dance—and listening to its impassioned singer wax poetic about the universal themes of tango lyrics—will transport you to beautiful Buenos Aires without missing a beat.
