Tripfilms Bites: What to Watch April 28-May 404/29/2008 08:04, by MoDean in Tripfilms Blog |
We’ve said it before: our filmmakers have great taste, and we can’t help going back for seconds on our favorite food videos.
Blame it on the approach of summer, but nothing has our mouths watering more than Hot Doug’s Encased Meat and Sausage Emporium in Chicago from filmmaker savorycities_YT. A glimpse into a Chicago institution where sausage is taken seriously, this video offers up a quick overview of a menu that includes alligator, reindeer, and of course, the classic Chicago-style hot dog—all prepared with a devoted eye on quality and authenticity.
In a different kind of fast-food environment, the hungry hostess of David Gacs’s spotlight on Saigon Food Markets enjoys a Vietnamese lunch to make any foodie traveler jealous, including a monster prawn that leaves one wondering what exactly they put in the water off the shores of this Southeast Asian country.
But who says time has improved upon travelers’ dining options? Not tamfilms.com’s lovable host, who travels back to medieval times (the historical age, not the hokey theme restaurant) at two restaurants in Tallinn, Estonia, where dishes traditionally served to Estonian merchants in the medieval age are eaten by dim candlelight in cavernous dining rooms. Even if you’re not into the whole idea of traveling back to the Dark Ages over lunch, the grilled meats and home-brewed beers look too good to pass up.
