Sun & Stalls: Soak up Open Air Markets

05/15/2008 16:05, by Kelley in Tripfilms Blog

With summer just a few balmy days away, one of the best ways to soak up some of that solar energy is at an outdoor market. Open air markets offer a chance to stroll outdoors, experience local culture, and pick up some unique gifts (after some rigorous bargaining with locals of course).

In Chichicastenango, hellotrain takes a walk through a wild and Colorful Market in Guatemala that is certainly a slice of life of the city’s Mayan culture. Grab a fresh taco from vendors, sit on thousand year old Mayan steps and watch “explosive” dancers perform right in front you.

If you are planning a trip to Buenos Aires, CaseyBeck gives you a tour through the enchanting stalls at the weekly market, Feria de Mataderos.

Hungry for some candied corn on the cob? Stewed silk worm larvae? Spiky Durian? Give your taste buds an education while perusing some of Seoul’s best street food at the Dongdaemun Market from David Gacs and sample the frightening but apparently delicious fruit durian, with TF_Tony, at a Malaysian Market. Yum.

For more fascinating markets, take a stroll through Laos’ Luang Prabang Market and Mozambique’s Arts and Crafts Market in Maputo and meet some outgoing personalities at Chiang Mai's Sunday Market.
