Where are you and Elise from?
We have both grown up on the Northern Beaches of Sydney, Australia.
How did you two cross paths?
I was Head Chef at a recently opened restaurant and Elise was still in uni studying teaching and started working as a waitress there. The rest is history! We have been together for 4 ½ years and engaged for 8 months.
Growing up, what was your life long dream?
Anthony: Well, I achieved half of my dream! I have always been intrigued by travel and the world around me, so I plan to do it as much as I can. And, I wanted to play in the MBA!
Elise: I have always loved kids and wanted to be a teacher since I can pretty much remember. My mum is also a teacher and seeing how much she enjoys it really inspired me. Travel has always been in my plans so being able to combine both is a dream come true
What inspired you start Positive World Travel? (What came before?)
Before Positive World Travel (PWT) we often talked about travelling the world and seeing different cultures and immersing ourselves in as many new situations as possible. PWT came about, by wanting to impact and inspire others follow their dreams. If we can do it, so can they!
What does Positive World Travel mean?
PWT means travelling the world and taking in everything there is to offer. It means impacting local cultures in the most sustainable way possible. Be respectful of values and learn as much as you can. Pretty simply: Travel Happy-Travel Well.
What destination surprised you the most?
Borneo. We had never thought to go there until a guy working in a travel shop recommended it to us. Diving, seeing Orang-utans in the wild, fireflies and trekking to hot springs was all on offer.
What is one place that disappointed you?
Truthfully we are yet to be disappointed in the places we have been. That’s not to say that everywhere has been breathtaking, jaw dropping and awe inspiring, but we realise that this comes with travel and we try to roll with the punches.
What travel memory do you think of most often?
It would have to be diving at Sipidan Island in Borneo. We had never done a wall dive before and it was amazing. Countless numbers of reef sharks, turtles and tropical fish. The icing on the cake was swimming with hundreds of Barracuda. Also, buying a motorbike and riding from North to South Vietnam was amazing. A must for anyone who has the time when travelling to Vietnam!
Where did you have a favourite meal?
That would have to be when we were on our motorbike in Vietnam. We stopped in a small town called Dak Glei on the Ho Chi Minh Road for the night and outside our guesthouse was a woman roasting whole chickens, stuffed with herbs and spices. So delicious! Also, at Sihanoukville in Cambodia we ate the best marinated pork ribs. We had them every night we stayed there!
Who (or what) inspired you along your travels?
Seeing people going about their everyday work is inspiring. We have noticed that people seem to have so much more pride in what they do than back at home. It is refreshing to see people content and happy with the simple things in life.
How do you go about filming? Do you have a plan or do you just jump in?
It depends what we are filming. Usually at destinations we try and film as much as possible because we will most likely make a film about it. But other times we just jump in and see what happens. A classic example of this would be our Swensens Ice-cream Challenge video!
Do you see filming as an obligation or benefit or both?
Definitely a benefit. Not only do we hope to inspire, inform and entertain others, these films are going to be great to look back on in ten years time and say “Remember That?!”
What do you hope to accomplish with your website, Positive World Travel?
We really hope that is it a place where people come to be entertained and informed by our experiences. We want our travel to fuel their desire to go on a journey round the world. We would love Positive World Travel to not only be about our trip but a culmination of many peoples thoughts, ideas and experiences creating the ultimate website for anything travel related.
What do you like about Tripfilms :) ?
Seeing destinations and places through film is such a good way to get a feel for where you may be visiting or wanting to go. Having a place where travel related films are all in one place makes it easy to get motivated.
