  • TBEX'11: Still has tickets!

I'm amazed there are still tickets, so hurry up and buy a ticket for next year's TBEX'11 Conference. TBEX'10 was held in New York City and it was a lively group of talented writers, bloggers, authors, twitter gurus and filmmakers, all of which who shared a common obsession: travel. Clearly it was right up our alley and we had a blast presenting and learning from the panelists, on everything from branding your blog, scoring press trips to travel "porn."    Buy your tickets and see you in Vancouver! http://www.travelblogexchange.com/page/tbex-11-registration-is-open

  • Kickin' it with Kids in Coeur d'Alene

It’s a late summer mid-morning in the beautifully rugged Bitterroot Mountains and the temperature is already hitting the low 80s. But we’re pulling on fleece jackets, wool hats and headlamps for the first leg of a bike ride along the Route of the Hiawatha. No, we’re not expecting an unseasonable Rocky Mountain snowstorm, but our Rails-to-Trails route along the Idaho/Montana border starts at the century-old, two-mile Taft tunnel. Inside it’s pitch black and the temperature drops to the low 40s. The rest of the ride promises a gentle five-degree downgrade its entire 15-mile length, passing through tunnels blasted out of sheer rock and riding over soaring steel railroad trestles that offer stunning forest vistas.      We stop our bikes–rented from the nearby Lookout Pass Ski Resort, and where we also bought “lift tickets” for a school bus ride back to our car at the top of the trail–about halfway through the tunnel...

  • The Fall of Provence

There is no better time to visit the South of France than in September, after the summer hordes have gone and while the last vestiges of summer linger on. The prices tend to drop, but the temperature doesn’t and the fragrant beauty of the region fills the senses with a potency that doesn’t fade until late-October when the winds starts to cool and the scent of the lavender and the thrum of the cicadas finally disappear.     Views of the Luberon The Luberon region, a wandermelon favorite, sits inland and stretches along 34 miles on either side of a small, rocky mountain range, an hour or so north of the Mediterranean Sea. Surrounded by rugged limestone cliffs, ancient hilltop villages such as Bonnieux, Lacoste, Gordes, Roussillon, Saignon and Oppède-le-Vieux are perched up high and overlook low mountains and peaceful farms with sweeping views that never seem to end. Peter Mayle described this bucolic area in his best-selling book, “A Year...

  • Cool Travel Site: InsiderPerks.com

We wanted to share a cool travel site with all you travel lovers. We really like what Insider Perks is doing because they are helping people travel by creating awesome, inspiring, informative videos. They offer 2000 videos from over 200 destinations that are part of their comprehensive travel guides. That's what Tripfilms does you say? Yes we do, but the difference is Insider Perks displays only videos that are professionally produced videos (whereas we accept even camera phone videos!).  Insider Perks also allows you to book travel through Expedia, purchase gear for your upcoming trip via Amazon and see what others are saying about a destination on Twitter. The site is really informative and very integrated with social networking. You can tweet your thoughts right after you watch a video from the same page. They also have a list of important travel "tweeters" and it inspired me to follow a few I hadn't heard of before. I think my favorite part is their great...

  • Labor Day Travel Deals

Labor Day falls on September 6th this year, and for those who haven’t booked any travel plans yet for the last weekend of summer, there are plenty of deep discounts still available. Whether you are looking for a family adventure or a quiet weekend retreat, here are some deals and travel tips to make the journey more affordable. According to travel expert John Di Scala of www.johnnyjet.com, one of the best ways to save on airlines and hotels this Labor Day is to travel on off-peak days. “Instead of going Friday to Monday try and do Wednesday to Wednesday or Saturday to Wednesday.  Look for package deals and get on Twitter to see if anyone is offering a very last minute deal,” says Di Scala. Florida is offering some of the best deals in the country this Labor Day. The Sunshine State’s beaches have been unaffected by the BP oil spill, yet prices for hotel rooms are down by as much as 30 percent across the Gulf Coast. “With all the bad news...

  • Press about Us: "How to: Share Your Vacations with the World"

The good folks at Insider Perks wrote a great blog about Tripfilms. Insider Perks is a similiar video site that focuses only on professionally produced content. Good stuff! Read what they had to say about Tripfilms & our gang below:  From time to time Insider Perks will be sharing advice and information on how to best take advantage of the tools available to travelers.  What we cover will vary widely but will all share one common characteristic, the ability to help you travel and experience the world in ways never before thought possible.   We'll get to the photo above in just a moment.  Before we do though I want you to consider a couple things.  Each person has their own individual reason for traveling and I won't presume to know or guess yours. In this day and age though, it might be safe to assume (especially if you are reading this article) that at some point you turn to the world wide web to help plan that...

  • Denmark's Idyllic Island Retreats

Denmark is a land of simple pleasures: clean air, small towns, and intensely green landscapes. Most of its 16 million people live close to the sea, and the intricate coastline is longer than that of the United States. It’s an ideal place for a family vacation or a leisurely cycling tour on flat, uncrowded roads. Bridges link the major islands and ferries reach the rest, allowing you to escape into seemingly remote areas within a few hours drive from Copenhagen.  One of those rustic retreats is Fyn, a big island that’s tightly sandwiched between the peninsula of Jutland and the island of Zealand to the east. It’s a region of farms and castles, and its legacy is distilled in Funen Village, an enchanting outdoor museum of rural life. Located just south of Odense, Fyn’s major city, on an exit from the east-west freeway, it transports you to a pastoral Shangri-La. Much smaller and less commercialized than Stockholm’s Skansen, the granddaddy...

  • Tripfilms is on TV!

JD Rinne, the assistant editor at Budget Travel magazine, was interviewed this morning for a segment called Digital Video 101 on ABC News.
