Dinner in the Rain on Pacaya

There are a lot of agencies that will take you to Pacaya Volcano. The bottom line is: You get what you pay for. We went through Old Town Outfitters which is a little more expensive, but paid for a knowledgeable guide and a rustic dinner. We booked an afternoon hike in hopes of seeing the sunset, but instead we waited out the rain under a tin roof and ate a fresh meal of avocado pitas. We descended the volcano in the quiet darkness of night after all the other tourists had gone home. It was a highlight of our trip to Guatemala.
