Regensburg, Germany is a remarkable city. Almost completely untouched in the Second World War, the city's tangible layers of history stretch back to Roman times. Second century Roman remains coexist with Romanesque, Gothic, Baroque, and some modern architecture to form a fascinating whole. Regensburg Cathedral, like most European cathedrals, took a very long time to complete. Such a large structure requires constant upkeep, which is why the stonemasons' workshop is right next to the building.
