Oltrarno - The 'Other' Florence
Translated as "beyond the Arno" or "the other side of the Arno," Oltrarno is only a short walk from the center of town, though it feels like a world away. Whereas Florence itself has become heavily populated by tourists, Oltrarno feels like it still belongs to the Florentines. Even with its quiet charm, the neighborhood is home to many of Florence's less visited sights, including the impressive Palazzo Pitti. Make sure to cap off your visit to Oltrarno with a bus ride or long uphill hike to Piazzale Michelangelo for one of the best views of Florence.
