The Red Fort is an imposing structure situated in the heart of Old Delhi. Built during the reign of Shah Jahan (who also built the Taj Mahal) on an earlier fortification, this vast complex became the capital of the Mughals until the middle of the 19th century, when they were nothing but figureheads and puppets of the British. The last Mughal emperor was exiled from here in 1857 following the Sepoy Mutiny. The British also used this as a base, and their buildings can still be seen in the fort. It's a fascinating place to wander and learn about Indian history.
