Salzburg Overview

Sound of Music, Pretzels, Mozart, Dirndls, Beer... I mean it doesn't get more Austrian than Salzburg

Salzburg was everything I pictured Austria to be, but even better. One side of the river has the downtown with antique shop signs, cute hidden alleys, horsedrawn carriages as well as pretzels and gluwein on every corner. A fairytale come to life! A bakery run by monks serves piping hot bread from the oven, and street painters hawk their renditions of Salzburg's surrounding mountains. The other side of the river has the Mirabell Gardens, where Maria von Trapp famously ran, and it also has a delicious outdoor market that's loaded with fresh vegetables, meats, pastries and sturm. I loved walking throughout Salzburg and viewing this quaint city from the vantage point of the modern art museum. A few highlights not to miss are a Mozart Dinner Concert, the Stiegl & Augustiner Breweries, Hiking along the Hohensalzburg (castle at the top of the hill), tasting a giant pretzel in the square or popping a mozartkugel in your mouth. You have to see Salzburg for yourself to be convinced that this fantasy is real.

The filmmaker and host team, Kelley and Justin, took Austria by storm, exploring the country's top sites, restaurants, hotels and attractions. Roadtripping from town to town, region to region, they tasted Vienna's best sacher torte, sipped Burgenland's finest wines that they helped make and explored the exhibits of Graz's Kunsthaus. They also hopped in the car over to Salzburg, touring the Stiegl brewery and Gossl dressmaker factory. After bite and browse in the new and modern Hangar 7, off they went to steep mountains of Innsbruck, taking in the city's medieval charm, giant ski jump and Swarovski crystal factory.
