Jim is a videographer (shooter/editor) who comes to the world of video production by way of advertising and photography.

Before there was non-linear editing, Jim crafted his stories in words – as an English major and copywriter –and through his photography and print experience. Prior to the introduction of “Final Cut Pro”, Jim would create simple 2-project dissolve slide shows to tell his stories, picking from an extensive library of Kodachrome slides he's taken over the years.

Then came digital images and video – and for the last 10 years, Jim has concentrated his skills on telling the best digital stories using these new technologies. Remembering what his college professor said one time about "great creative changes happen in civilizations around the turn of the century", Jim decided to use his lens and ask his questions involving creative process and how ideas become reality, in order to document creativity at the turn of the century and beyond. Creative Spark! – Jim's next company – was born!

For the next 5 years, Jim interviewed and documented the creative process of a hundred different artists, inventors and scientists, and now has a digital video archive with over a thousand hours of footage from such creative luminaries as Spalding Gray, Laurie Anderson, Philip Glass, The Blue Man Group, Rickie Lee Jones, Harold Ramis and the late Chicago painter, Ed Paschke.

During that time, Jim went from editing on an AVID system to editing in Final Cut Pro. Just three short weeks after the introduction of Final Cut Pro, Jim's friend and Apple Technology Guru recommended it to him over buying an AVID editing system; Jim immediately got the program; and had his first show edited in FCP a week later! He's never looked back. Today, Jim is proud to be an FCP Apple Certified Pro.

When possible, Jim likes to shoot on rollerblades – (which he politely calls, "the poor man's steadicam"). And one of the many gems of his collection is the footage of the late Spalding Gray's spectacular wipe out while "docu-rollering" (the process of combining rollerblading and interviewing) on the Chicago waterfront. Finally, when Jim is too tired to document the world around him, his takes a break, and recharges his creative battery by taking pictures and shoot video of his two "sweet angels", Adriana – his partner of 16 years – and LuLu, his yellow lab, and their "daughter" of 6 years!
